Zillertaler HöhenstraßeTyrol's most famous alpine road
The Zillertaler Höhenstraße is one of Austria's most beautiful alpine roads. Explore it with your own car, by tour bus, or with the public bus. Avid cyclists can also discover this road by bike. At the hotel, we offer e-bikes to rent in summer. This alpine road is also a dream come true for motorcyclists - the many winding curves are wonderfully suited for an exciting bike excursion. Experience the Zillertal at an elevation of 2,020 m and enjoy the clear, fresh mountain air.
The Zillertaler Höhenstraße was built at the beginning of the 1960's and was originally intended to help farmers manage their alpine pastures and improve access for building river barriers to prevent the frequent flooding that occurred in this area. Word soon spread about the breathtaking views of the Zillertal Alps along this road, and the Zillertaler Höhenstraße was opened to the general public in the late 1960's.
To be able to ensure maintenance and good road conditions, a toll fee was introduced in 1978.
In winter, the Zillertaler Höhenstraße is not open to guests.
